A beautiful Arts & Crafts home in Cambridge, where preserving the property's original character was at the heart of the project.
Hatches supplied bespoke timber windows and doors, carefully designed to complement the home's period architecture. From the striking blue entrance door and traditional panelled joinery to the intricate stained and leaded glass, every detail was considered to ensure the new elements sat comfortably alongside the original features.
A lovely example of how traditional craftsmanship and thoughtful design can bring new life to a period home while retaining everything that makes it special.

One of the standout features of this project is the beautiful stained glass, expertly crafted by Tom, a master of stained glass design.
We worked closely with both the client and Tom throughout the design process, ensuring the intricate glasswork not only complimented the Arts & Crafts character of the property but was also carefully designed and constructed to suit our bespoke timber windows and doors.
The result is a lovely combination of traditional stained glass craftsmanship and modern timber joinery, preserving the character and charm of this Cambridge home.

From inside the property, the entrance doorset is finished in a timeless off-white (RAL9010), creating a light and welcoming hallway while beautifully contrasting with the rich blue exterior (colour matched to Dulux Mediterranean Blue).
The traditional raised and fielded panels, decorative mouldings and aged brass ‘From The Anvil’ ironmongery reflect the home’s Arts & Crafts character. The carefully incorporated stained glass adds a lovely touch of colour, allowing natural light to filter through while maintaining privacy.
The combination of bespoke timber joinery and traditional detailing ensures the entrance looks just as beautiful from the inside as it does from the outside.
Have just had 11 timber windows and two timber doors fitted in our 1920s house. Andy and Courtney were easy to deal with through the whole process and the finished windows are beautiful and high quality. Used Hatches' recommended fitter P&H and they were also very professional and easy to work with.
One of the standout features of this Arts & Crafts home is the impressive stained glass window that spans the staircase, creating a beautiful focal point across both floors.
The tall, elegant arrangement of bespoke timber frames follows the proportions of the stairwell, allowing natural light to flood through the space. Traditional leaded glass, finished with rich red borders and circular stained glass details, adds colour and character while providing privacy.
Working closely with our specialist stained glass craftsman, Tom, careful consideration was given to incorporating the decorative glass into our bespoke timber window frames, ensuring the finished design remained sympathetic to the property’s original architecture.
The result is a wonderful feature that can be appreciated from different levels of the staircase, combining traditional craftsmanship with the practicality and performance of modern timber windows.
